about

intro

Hi, and thanks for visiting!

This website was created to showcase creative work that has combined my interests as an engineer, artist, and user experience designer. Many of my projects have focused on physically interactive interfaces and environments. I'm particularly inclined toward technology that connects people beyond the screen, as well as novel immersive experiences. I believe in getting to the root of what people need, and not just providing substitutes or distractions.

My interests include: education, games, biomedical engineering, and public installations.

For 9 years, I was part of two amazing collectives of artists and engineers that create interactive installations: Syncytium and Brownian Motion

Alongside these projects, my professional interest is in researching and designing socio-technical systems, presently focusing on online education. I currently work in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, doing research in online professional development and online community for high school teachers.

I have two master's degrees from Carnegie Mellon University: 1) Biomedical Engineering and 2) Engineering and Technology Innovation Management,  and I have a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan.

SYNCYTIUM & BROWNIAN MOTION

I am a founder of Syncytium, which is a collective of engineers and artists. We create interactive installations for the local community in Ann Arbor, MI and other participatory events, like Lakes of Fire and Burning Man.

The group has been going strong for 9+ years.

From Syncytium spawned a smaller crew called Brownian Motion, which consists of Theresa Carranza, Suby Raman, and myself.

For 3 years, we worked together on immersive, interactive experiences which are showcased on this website.
